ELIZABETH S. UPSON

Elizabeth Scott Upson, 86, died at home June 11, 1997, after a long illness.

Mrs. Upson was born in Norfolk. She was the widow of Irvin Joseph Upson, who passed away in March 1984. She was an active and a lifelong member of Scott Memorial United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach. Prior to her marriage she taught at Creeds, Oceana and Blackwater high schools. In addition to her church activities, Mrs. Upson was a member of the Cape Henry Women's Club, the Cardinal Garden Club and enjoyed quilting.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Upson O'Brien of Kinnelon, N.J., Jane Upson Berdahl of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one son, Joe Upson of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Dr. Michael J. O'Brien, Dr. Thomas K. O'Brien, Suzanne M. O'Brien, Joseph Kevin Upson, David Scott Upson, Elizabeth Ashley Upson, Edgar J. Berdahl, Carl T. Berdahl; and three great-grandchildren.

A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. H. Randolph Arrington. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, from 3 to 5 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
