BILL SPIVEY

Bill Spivey, 59, of the 600 block of Carroll St., died June 12, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Spivey was born in Bertie County and was a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church, Aulander, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was mayor of Aulander for 10 years and served on the Aulander town council. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was serving as postmaster of Woodland, N.C., and was the former postmaster of Gatesville, N.C. Mr. Spivey was a member and district director of the National Association of Postmasters and a member and past president of the Tri-County Association of Postmasters. He was also a member of Woodland Men's Club and a former member of Gatesville Ruritan Club. He was a graduate of East Carolina University.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Tucker Spivey; daughter, Janice Spivey Teel of Greenville; son, William Owen Spivey of Newport News; sister, Ruth Spruill of Aulander; brother, Bob Spivey of Windsor; twin grandchildren, Jamie and Megan Spivey of Newport News.

A funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Alan Mizelle and the Rev. Wint Hale Jr. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. Friends may join the family at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial gifts may be made to Connaritsa Baptist Church, Aulander, N.C. 27805, or Roanoke Chowan Hospice, P.O.
