Robert Adam Humphrey, 73, of the 500 block of Green Castle Lane, died June 13, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Humphrey was a native of Louisville, Ky. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, serving in World War II with the 443rd AAA Battalion under General George S. Patton during the campaigns and battles of North Africa, Sicily and Central Europe. Following World War II, he served two tours during the Korean Conflict. Awards include the Silver Battle Star with three Bronze Stars and five overseas Service Bars. Mr. Humphrey retired with rank of master sergeant in October 1962. In 1967 Mr. Humphrey founded A-Active Exterminating Co. Inc. and remained company president until his retirement in 1988, although the business remained in the family until 1995.
He held the office of past president for Tidewater Pest Control and Virginia State Pest Control Associations. He was a member of the Oceana Lions Club and the American Legion Post 113. Bob was an avid golfer and traveler who enjoyed life and people.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly C. Humphrey; two daughters, Chris Blake of Hampton and Henrietta Frogge of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Charles H. Humphrey of Louisville; a sister, Margie L. Ringenberg of Louisville; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Walter Kennedy. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 until 8. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
