NELSON B. BALLANCE

Nelson Brooks Ballance, 70, died Saturday June 14, 1997, at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth, son of the late William and Flora Ballance. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and served in World War II as an Army paratrooper. He later graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering. He was the safety director of the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, Md., at the time of his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Honaker Ballance; his son, Jeremy Brooks Ballance and his wife, Phyllis of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Karra, Aaron, Jennifer; brothers, Jack B. Ballance of Grandy, Harry E. Ballance of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held Wednesday in the Ballance home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
