ELTON L. HENDRIX

Elton Lee Hendrix, 77, of the 5600 block of Canterbury Lane, died June 17, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.

A native of Hobbsville, N.C., he was a retiree from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Crestar Bank. He was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church and DAV Chapter No. 22, VFW Post 9382 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Gatling Hendrix; a daughter, Jean Templeton and her husband, Lewis, of Suffolk; five sisters, Desma Riddick, Lillian Stallings, Vivian Stallings, Frances Bazemore and Juanita Trotman; three brothers, Wilber Hendrix, Robert Hendrix and James Hendrix.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, by Dr. Albert A. Peverall. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
