The School Board approved a policy Tuesday that will allow corporate or other private sponsorship of schools to support interscholastic activity.
The board approved the new policy and revised others that will limit who can support extracurricular programs and how much they can spend.
Under the policy, principals can contract with sponsors for up $5,000 and one year. A sponsorship review committee would have to approve sponsorships exceeding that amount or length of time.
The types of sponsors are also restricted. For instance, no sponsorship is permitted that would promote violence or the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or firearms.
