Jasper Curley Smith, 86, died June 16, 1997, in Duplin General Hospital, Kenansville.
A native of Gates County, he was predeceased by his mother, Ella Parker, and his wife, Lilli Mae Smith. He was employed at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center and a member of Union Branch Baptist Church, Corapeake, where he was a deacon for 37 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Denise Perry and her husband, Ray Perry, of Rose Hill; stepgrandchildren, Cheryl, Ronald, Richard, Ray Jr., Sarah, Denisha and Christian, all of Rose Hill; sister, Mrs. Ella Mae Jenkins of Portsmouth; two nieces, Phyllis Harris and husband of Norfolk and Venetta Gunther and husband of Portsmouth; nephew, Horace Jenkins of Portsmouth; special cousins, Otis Smith of Dendron and Dorothy and Percy White of Portsmouth; and several other cousins and relatives.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Union Branch Baptist Church, Corapeake, by the Rev. Roosevelt Askew II. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Thelma Knight, 619 Chisholm Lane, Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
