LOCAL BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED: The Better Business Bureau of Greater Hampton Roads was recognized Friday by its national organization, the Council of Better Business Bureaus, for meeting all standards and requirements for a BBB that fully serves businesses and consumers. The Council of Better Business Bureaus, the umbrella organization for the 137 BBBs in the country, evaluates the programs and operations of its member, non-profit BBBs every three years against 21 operating standards and other policies.

VIRGINIA BEACH

DOLLAR TREE STOCK OFFERING PRICED: Dollar Tree Stores Inc., a Norfolk-based retailer, said it has priced an underwritten public offering of 4 million shares at $48.50 a share. About 2.6 million shares will come from the SK Equity Fund and its affiliates, while about 1.4 million shares will come from top executives and other stockholders. The 770-store chain, which sells merchandise for $1 each, had initially planned to offer 3.5 million shares to the public. METRO NAMES LANSING STAFF SUPPORT COORDINATOR: Craig Lansing was named staff support coordinator at Metro Information Services. In addition to providing information technology services, he will be responsible for staff support at various client sites.

CBN'S INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIVISION RANKS 29TH IN NATIONWIDE SURVEY: This week in a special midweek edition of PC Week called ``Fast-Track 500,'' the Christian Broadcasting Network's Information Technology Division was listed as one of the nation's most aggressive adopters of innovative products and services. CBN placed 29th out of 500 companies and listed as one of the highest ranked nonprofit organizations in a Fast-Track 500 list of companies from throughout the country. CBN was recognized for its high-speed data communications throughout its campus, which is known as bandwidth. They were also recognized for their computer telephone system.

FIRST VIRGINIA TO SELL THREE BRANCHES: First Virginia Banks Inc., based in Falls Church, said that three of its subsidiary banks have agreed to sell the assets and deposits of three branch offices in southwest Virginia to First Community Bank of Southwest Virginia Inc. (formerly Citizens Bank of Tazewell Inc.), a subsidiary of FCFT Inc. Premier Bank-Central, N.A., and Premier Bank-South, N.A., which are subsidiaries of First Virginia, will be selling a branch in Pound and Fort Chiswell, respectively. First Virginia Bank-Mountain Empire will be selling a branch in Clintwood. The three branches are being sold pursuant to a divestiture agreement that First Virginia entered into with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Reserve Board in connection with its recent acquisition of Premier Bankshares Corp.
