GOLPHER OF THE WEEK:SAM ROBINSON VIRGINIA BEACH

Age: 39

Occupation: Chief Warrant Officer 3. Headed for the USS Leyte Gulf later this summer.

Handicap: 1

Favorite course: Hell's Point. The course requires all the shots.

Lowest score: 64 at Whiting Field in Milton, Fla.; score is the course record. Locally, a 66 at Langley Eaglewood Blue course; score featured a 30 on the front nine in a tournament.

Clubs: MacGregor irons, Bubble driver, Ray Cook putter.

Shot I dread the most: Bunker shot over the water.

My dream foursome: Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus against Tiger Woods and me.

Biggest golf gripe: Slow play, and the greenskeepers that contribute to it by making impossible pin placements during the heaviest play times.

Most memorable shot: Hooked a 4-iron around trees to within four feet of the pin during the 1984 All-Navy Golf Tournament. Shot resulted in an eagle 3 that sparked a 69 and a win in the tournament.

Funniest thing I ever saw on the course: A friend threw a club and it wound up in a tree, but the funny part was when he threw another club up to free the first club and it also got stuck. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo by Steve Earley/The Virginian-Pilot
