Work is progressing on the grandstand at Colonial Downs, Virginia's

first parimutuel racetrack that is scheduled to open Sept. 1. The

$55 million complex in New Kent County will feature two tracks, one

dirt and one turf. The turf track, which is rarer than dirt tracks,

will be used only on a limited basis this racing season, expected to

last six weeks, because it takes more time and effort to get the

turf in good running order. KEYWORDS: RACETRACK COLONIAL DOWNS
