Curry Bowie Golden Buchanan, 81, of the 2300 block of Glendale Ave., died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Durham Regional Hospital.
She was born in Talladega, Ala., Oct. 13, 1915. Her parents were Curry and Return Golden of Sanford, N.C. Her father was the former administrator of Lee County Hospital, Sanford. She has a brother, Meigs Golden, who works with Interstate Johnson Lane in Sanford.
Mrs. Buchanan was a graduate from Marjorie Webster in Washington, D.C. She married Ernest T. Buchanan Jr. of Sanford and they raised three children in Durham, Virginia Beach and Warrenton, Va. Curry was a homemaker and part-time librarian and schoolteacher who was actively involved in many volunteer activities in schools, churches and the community, including Girl Scouts and voter registration. She was a longtime member of Northgate Presbyterian Church and also attended Duke Chapel.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest T. Buchanan Jr. of the home. Her children are Dr. Joe Buchanan of Virginia Beach, Dr. Susan Alexander of Raleigh/Cary, Mary Davis of Herndon, Va. She has six grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home, Sanford, from 6 to 8 p.m. today. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Buffalo Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a light summer supper for friends and relatives at the home of Meigs and Peggy Golden, 2007 Windmill Road, Sanford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aging Family Services, 4812 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27609, to establish a network of appropriately trained caregivers to assist the elderly in their own homes. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
