The Rev. William Albert Ruth, 60, of the 700 block of W. Church St., died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Albemarle Hospital.
He was a native of Cary and served as a United Methodist pastor in the North Carolina Conference for more than 31 years. His appointments included: Love Joy-Macedonia Charge; Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church; Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, Graham; Duck United Methodist Church; Millbrook United Methodist Church, Raleigh; and First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth City. He was an Eagle Scout and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
The Rev. Ruth was the son of the late Tulice Van and Cora Alice Gillespie Ruth and the husband of Robyn Timberlake Ruth of Elizabeth City.
Besides his wife, the Rev. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Vicki Ruth and Christy Ruth, both of Elizabeth City; and a brother, Charles Alton Ruth of Cary.
A memorial service will be conducted in First United Methodist Church, Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church following the service.
