NORFOLK

ESSEX HIRES LOAN OFFICER: Robin Flowers has been named a loan officer at Essex First Mortgage. She will be originating first mortgages in the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake areas. Her background is in mortgage banking and real estate.

DICKENS HONORED AS EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR: James Dickens was named Employee of the Year receiving Public Works' 1996 Ebenezer Stevens Award. Dickens is a crew leader with the division of environmental storm water management and has served with the city since 1992. The award honors the Public Works employee who best exemplifies the department's values and ideas.

PORTSMOUTH

CAPLAN APPOINTED TO FDA POST: Dr. Robert B. Caplan, a breast surgeon and director of the Breast Care Center, was named a consultant to the FDA on the Radiological Devices Panel. The panel is responsible for reviewing applications for new radiological devices and enforcing the standards for existing equipment.

VIRGINIA BEACH

GAISER PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT: Bryan K. Gaiser was promoted to vice president of the Tidewater division of Fox & Associates, the largest commercial auction company in Virginia and the Carolinas. He will develop and coordinate auction sales in Tidewater and throughout the southeastern United States.

PENINSULA

MORGAN TO ACQUIRE WAHLFELD MANUFACTURING: Williamsburg-based Morgan Products Ltd. said Wednesday that its Morgan Distribution unit has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Wahlfeld Manufacturing Co., a distributor of Andersen products and other millwork products. Wahlfeld is based in Peoria, Ill., and has annual sales of approximately $23 million. Larry Robinette, Morgan Products president and chief executive officer, said he expected the transaction to be completed during July. Morgan Products Ltd. is a manufacturer and distributor of specialty building products through its three business units: Morgan Distribution, Morgan Manufacturing and Morgan National Accounts.

NETWORK LONG DISTANCE REPORTS YEAR END RESULTS: Network Long Distance announced its operating results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1997, including the effect of Network's recent mergers with National Teleservices Inc. and Eastern Telecom International Corp.
