POLICE ARREST, CHARGE WOMAN IN ALLEGED UTILITY SCAM

An arrest has been made in connection with an alleged utility scam, Police Chief Michael Lloyd said.

Lloyd said Christine Marie Shortsleeve has been charged with obtaining money under false pretenses and has been placed in Albemarle District Jail under a $12,000 secured bond.

The alleged scam involved people going door-to-door offering a digital load management electric meters for $72.12, a device not available from the Elizabeth City Electric Department, authorities said.

Some residents became suspicious and began calling police Monday, Lloyd said. KEYWORDS: ARREST FRAUD
