BLUEFISH, SPOT AND TROUT HOOKED ON A SLOW DAY

Pier fishing was slow along the northern beaches Thursday.

A few bluefish, several spot and a handful of gray trout were taken during the day of Kitty Hawk Pier. Avalon Pier reported a few scattered blues landed.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught a few pigfish. Jennette's Pier reported slow fishing. Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught a variety of fish, but only one or two of each.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported a few Spanish mackerel decked early in the morning. A few small bottom fish, a few blues and several small gray trout were taken later in the day.

Some very small spot and croaker were taken on Avon Pier. Several undersized gray trout were released.

Spanish mackerel fishing was real good Wednesday evening just before dark on Frisco Pier. A few Spanish mackerel were taken early Thursday morning. Two 25-pound jacks were released. Scattered bluefish were caught during the afternoon.

Surf fishing was slow along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet Action also was slow from Oregon Inlet to Buxton, with a few sea mullet and other small bottom fish taken.

Good catches of Spanish mackerel were reported from Cape Point Wednesday at sunset. Fishing was slow most of Thursday, with a few small bluefish landed.

Spanish mackerel fishing was good at False Point Wednesday evening. Scattered Spanish mackerel, bluefish and flounder were taken by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet on Thursday.

Headboat fishing around Oregon Inlet was fair with small bottom fish landed in the sound, and pigfish and trigger fish decked in the ocean.

Charters of Oregon Inlet caught plenty of dolphin in deep water from east o the inlet to the 40300 Loran line. A few tuna and king mackerel were landed northeast of the inlet.

Two blue marlin were released by the Hog and one blue marlin was released by the Fight `N' Lady.

Charters trolling inshore around Hatteras Inlet landed plenty of Spanish mackerel Thursday.

Dolphin fishing was good in the Gulf Stream. A blue marlin was released by the Wahoo and a white marlin was released by the Tuna Duck.

A shift in the wind forecast for the weekend could improve big fish pier action along the northern beaches.

The water temperature was 61 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 73 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
