MARTHA J. BRYANT

Martha Jo Bryant died in her home June 26, 1997.

She was living with her daughter-in-law, Carol Bryant. Mrs. Bryant was born in Denison, Texas, April 22, 1914, the daughter of James H. and Cora McKelvey of Birmingham, Ala. She worked for 15 years at the Norfolk Naval Air Station as an accounts maintenance supervisor and retired in 1974. She was married to Charles M. Bryant in Birmingham on June 7, 1930. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant moved to Norfolk about 1934 and were living in Norfolk when Mr. Bryant died in 1975. Eventually, Mrs. Bryant moved to Port Charlotte to live with her son, Charles ``Mac'' Bryant and his wife, Carol.

She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Charleen Burkhardt of Campbell, Calif.; a son, Charles ``Mac'' Bryant of Port Charlotte; and granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Fautz of Campbell.

She is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne Smith, and her husband, Edward; her son, James E. Bryant, and his wife, Joan; her daughter-in-law, Carol Bryant; and her brother, James H. McKelvey Jr., and his wife, Betty, of McCalla, Ala. Mrs. Bryant had one surviving granddaughter, Carolyn David and her husband, Gregory, of Norfolk; and grandsons, William ``Bill'' E. Smith, of Norfolk, James E. Bryant Jr. and Timothy Bryant of Virginia Beach; and Bernard Burkhardt of Campbell. She had seven great-grandsons, Steven, Christopher and Phillip David of Norfolk, Corey and Nathaniel Smith of Virginia Beach, Shaun David of Florida and James Fautz of Campbell. She had a great-great-granddaughter, Crystal David; and two great-great-grandsons, Patrick David of Norfolk and James Norton of Campbell. She had two nieces, Kaye White and her husband, John, of Baltimore and Lois Von Ryik and her husband, Walter, of Crestview, Fla; two great-nephews, John and Bryant White of Baltimore; and a great-niece, Alex Keely; a great-great-nephew, Bryant White Jr. of Baltimore; and many great-great-nieces and -nephews in Alabama.

The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral will be conducted by the Rev. B.G. Campbell at the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
