KICKING UP THEIR KILTS

Don Gregory, the lead drum major for the Drum and Bagpipe Band,

holds a trophy that his group earned at the Hampton Roads Highland

Games. The festival, formerly called the Tidewater Scottish

Festival, Saturday at Chesapeake City Park drew participants from as

far as California.

At left, Martina Ruhfass, 14, from Philadelphia, inspects her shoes

before performing ``The Village Maid.'' Erin Murphy, a 13-year-old

from Fearless, Pa., standing, and Victoria Francies, 12, from

Philadelphia, also competed. The Highland Games will continue this

morning, starting at 8:30, with more dancing, athletic, and dog

herding competitions. The closing ceremony is set for 4:45.
