Dorothy M. Hughes, 72, of the 5700 block of Burrell Ave. died July 1, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of New York City, she was the widow of Horald McRay Hughes and a life member of V.F.W., Post 3160 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a two-time past president, from 1977 to 1978 and 1981 to 1982. She was the state president of the ladies auxiliary from 1989 to 1990 and a member of the Democratic Club, a contract bridge life master, and worked for several local charities.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce H. Mathews and her husband, David, of Norfolk, and Patricia A. Hughes of Norfolk; two sisters, Viola Bierganski of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Patricia D. Schmitt of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and other loving relatives.
She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Horrigan.
Services will be private. The family will receive friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
