The moratorium on commercial fishing licenses has been extended for 30 days by the state General Assembly.
The measure approved Monday night keeps the moratorium in effect until Aug. 1.
The extension was approved because the legislature is still struggling with the budget.
The moratorium was ordered in 1994 so that the state Division of Marine Fisheries could get a handle on the numbers of a variety of fish in the sounds and the sea.
