Claude Chester Gurganus, 87, of the 3600 block of Bridge Road, died July 1, 1997, in the loving arms of his family and friends.
A native of Tarboro, N.C., he was the widower of Juanita Mae Gurganus and was a truck driver for Virginia Chemicals.
Survivors include a daughter, Tina G. Preas of Chesapeake; a son, James N. Gurganus of Chesapeake; a sister, Nell Haskett of Virginia Beach; a brother, Haywood Gurganus of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudette G. Campbell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Lloyd Garrett and Mr. John Thompson. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home of his daughter, 3433 Anita Circle, Chesapeake.
