CHERYL D. SAWYER

Cheryl Denise Sawyer, 30, of the 900 block of Butts Station Road, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at her residence.

Mrs. Sawyer was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of Sandra McCoy Compton of Chesapeake and the late Robert Wayne Compton Sr. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Other survivors include her husband, James E. Sawyer Jr.; her daughter, Ashtin Sawyer; her son, James E. Sawyer III; her sister, Angela Wilson; her two brothers, Michael Compton and Robert W. Compton Jr., all of Chesapeake; her grandfather, Johnny H. Compton of Roxboro, N.C.; her great-grandmother, Ruby B. Babb of Chesapeake; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Linda Sawyer of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Chip Roberson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1832 Elbow Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23320 or the American Cancer Society, Portsmouth-Chesapeake Unit, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
