Norfolk State University has had four leaders during its 62-year

history. Dr. Samuel Scott was the school's first director, serving

1935-38. Dr. Lyman B. Brooks began as director on June 8, 1938, and

later became provost, then president. He served for 37 years, until

he was succeded by Dr. Harrison B. Wilson on July 1, 1975. Dr. Marie

V. McDemmond, NSU's new president, took office Tuesday. A story in

Wednesday's Pilot said she is the third president in NSU's

existence.
