2 JUVENILES CHARGED IN SLAYING OF WOMAN SHOT ON BERKLEY STREET BOND HEARINGS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN NORFOLK FOR THE BOYS ON JULY 11.

Two juveniles, one a 13-year-old boy, have been arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of Rose Marie Jones, a Chesapeake woman who was shot while in her car Tuesday night in the Berkley section.

Police spokesman Larry Hill did not release the juveniles' names because of their ages. One, a 17-year-old who lives in the 1000 block of Mahone Ave., was charged with capital murder, two counts of attempted robbery and three counts of using a firearm.

The 13-year-old, of the 900 block of E. Liberty St., was charged with murder, two counts of attempted robbery and three counts of using a firearm.

The two juveniles appeared in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Wednesday morning. Judge William P. Williams set bond hearings for July 11.

Police released little information about Jones' slaying. Hill said police were called to the 900 block of Fluvanna St. about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the report of a traffic accident. When they arrived, Jones, 31, told them she had been shot.

She was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she later died. Hill said another passenger was in the car at the time. The passenger, who was not identified, was not injured.

A family member said Jones, who lived in the 3200 block of Hornsea Road, grew up in Chesapeake and was the mother of one.

Several juveniles, defined as teens under age 18, have been charged with violent crimes in Hampton Roads this year. That includes two Portsmouth teens arrested last week in the death of Mark E. Pickrel of Chesapeake.

Hill said laws have gotten tougher to combat the problem, but young violent offenders are becoming more common.

``Anytime something like this happens, you're very disappointed to see youths involved in something as violent as this,'' Hill said. KEYWORDS: SHOOTING MURDER ARREST JUVENILE
