Two members of the Granby outfield and Norfolk's most versatile female athlete highlighted the city's selections on the All-Eastern District softball team as selected by the league's coaches.
Gina Frazier, who also pitched and was a first-team All-Tidewater and All-Eastern Region pick and outfielder Lauren Bowen were the Comets' first-team representatives, while Booker T. Washington's Raquita Washington added the softball honor to her first-team awards in basketball and volleyball.
Washington, the lone repeater on the first team, is a three-time all-district pick. She was also the All-Tidewater basketball Player of the Year.
Lake Taylor's Christina Tarr was the only other Top 13 player from Norfolk on a team dominated by Wilson and Churchland. The two Portsmouth schools made a splashy debut into the Eastern District, finishing 1-2 in the district tournament and garnering nine of the 13 first-team spots.
Frazier, a senior, hit .500 with 26 RBI and finished the season as the Comets' best pitcher. Bowen, also a senior, hit .426 with 16 RBI and 18 stolen bases and 26 runs scored to help Granby finish second in the regular-season standings.
Washington hit nearly .400 but was hamstrung by the pitching-poor Bookers, who did a dramatic freefall from last year's co-district championship. Despite a host of returners, Booker T. Washington won just four games this season.
Tarr, the Titans junior, finished with the highest batting average among Norfolk regulars at .526.
