Lisle Carter Browne Davis, 83, of the 4900 block of West Norfolk Road died July 3, 1997.
She was a native of Portsmouth and a founding member of the Portsmouth Service League. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of Trinity Church and St. Christopher's Church. As longtime chairman of the St. Christopher's altar guild, Mrs. Davis was instrumental in the creation of vestments and hangings still in use in the church today.
Mrs. Davis was born April 15, 1914, to Harry Bailey Browne and Fannie Langhorne Browne. She was married to the late Charles Robert Davis.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisle Langhorne Davis Porter of Portsmouth; a son, James Martin Davis III, and his wife, Carol Garrison Davis of Roanoke; a sister, Cecile Browne Adams of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3300 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 304 Worthington Square, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher's Church and the Jackson-Feild Home.
