Jimmie Larry Nixon Jr., 16, of the 1000 block of Centre Ave., was born Nov. 12, 1980, and departed this life July 5, 1997. Jimmie, a very sweet and special child, left a beautiful touch on all who knew him.
He was christened at Ebenezer Baptist Church of Portsmouth where he attended Sunday School, church services, Vacation Bible School and special services when his health permitted it. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools where he attended the DAC center, Mount Hermon Elementary and Hunt-Mapp Junior High School. He enjoyed listening to music, horseback riding, joy riding and watching television. He also loved to eat.
He is survived by his parents, Jimmie L. Nixon and Patricia Saunders Nixon; his sister, Annette M. Nixon; great-grandmother, Mary L. Saunders; grandfather, John E. Saunders; grandmother, Mary E. Nixon; stepgrandmother, Barbara Saunders; great-aunts, Erna Saunders, Gracie Saunders, Colleen Ewing, Marjorie Perkins and Carolyn Parham; great-uncles, Walter G. Saunders, Joseph M. Saunders Jr., Henry Parham, Joseph Nixon, Franklin Roosevelt Ewing Jr. and Henry Ewing; aunts, Gwendolyn Washington, Jacqueline Dillard Herbert, Eugenia Nixon, Ada Holmes, Hester Lucas, Dora Parham, Marie Arrington and Johnnette Nixon; uncles, Horace Dillard, Isaac Holmes, Eldridge Lucas III, Kenneth Parham, Tony Arrington, William Lee Nixon Jr. and Terry Nixon; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
You may view the body today at Fisher Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A funeral will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 728 Effingham St., Portsmouth, at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Davis Family Cemetery, Ivor.
