Responding to strong overseas demand, Virginia farmers planted more tobacco this year than last, the Virginia Agricultural Statistics Service reported. Farmers have increased acreage significantly for flue-cured, burley and dark-fired types. Tobacco, Virginia's top cash crop, generated receipts of $186 million in 1995. Officials said most of this year's crops appear healthy and with some rain they could generate a high yield.
