Retired U.S. Army Col. Ralph N. Tudor, 81, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He had lived on the Peninsula for 36 years.
Col. Tudor was born in Columbus, Ohio, but grew up in Edwardsville, Ill. He earned degrees at Blackburn College, University of Illinois, and a degree in motion picture and television production at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles. He served in World War II in Europe with the 165th Signal Photo Company. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Col. Tudor was the 1965 U.S. Army representative to the NATO Defense College, Paris, France. He retired in 1970 in Hampton after 29 years in the service. Col. Tudor was past president of the Hampton Host Lion's Club, the Peninsula Fine Arts Association and a member of the Retired Officers Association. He was a supporter and photographer for the ODU Lady Monarchs from 1976 to 1995.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Hanan Tudor of Virginia Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne T. and Danny Yates of New Bern, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jessica and Virginia Tudor of Virginia Beach, Elizabeth M. Bradshaw of Clearwater, Fla., Jennifer H. Bradshaw of Wilmington, N.C., and D. Brown Yates of New Bern; a great-grandchild, Joshua S. Lilly of Clearwater.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home, Hampton. A local funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of the Centurion, Fort Monroe. The interment service will be conducted Wednesday at the Fort Myers Chapel with burial following in Arlington National Cemetery. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
