DANER D. GREENE

Mrs. Daner Duncan Greene, 86, of One Crawford Parkway died at Maryview Medical Center Wednesday, July 16, 1997, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Newport, Tenn., and the widow of John I. Greene, she lived in Portsmouth since 1941. She retired in 1974 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where she was a contract negotiator for 32 years. She was an active member of the Cradock United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Marable Bible Class, a Sunday school teacher and administrative board member. She was past matron, Victory Chapter No. 16, Order of Eastern Star; member, Scottish Rite Ladies; Argus Literary Club; Christian Woman's Club; and a docent, Portsmouth Naval Museum.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rhea Carter and son-in-law, Henry M. Carter Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Clair Bell of Staunton, Va., and her husband, Thomas G. Bell Jr.; a great-grandson, Thomas G. Bell III of Staunton; five sisters-in-law, Iva Ciccotti, Roxie Palmer, Bura Storms of Chesapeake, Constance Duncan of Kingsport, Tenn., Mattie Duncan of Newport; several nieces and nephews; and the Carolyn Cummings family of Portsmouth.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Cradock United Methodist Church. Immediately following the service, a reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
