HELLEN H. COSTIGAN

Hellen Hughart Costigan, 84, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, in Harbour Pointe Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Maysville, Ky. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Edna Hughart and Herbert Costigan, as well as her two brothers, Richard S. Costigan and Robert O. Costigan.

Miss Costigan was the retired owner and operator of Jackson Transfer and Storage Co. after 35 years. She was a 1931 graduate of Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, Ohio. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past president of the Women's Division of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the board of directors of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, a former chairperson of the Keep Norfolk Beautiful Committee, a former vice president and member of the board of directors of the Quota Club, a former member of the board of directors of the Women's Traffic Club, a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, a former member of the Personnel Executive's Association, a former member of the Norfolk Safety Council and, in 1968, she was a nominee for the Civic Leader's of America national award.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ann N. Costigan of Virginia Beach; three nieces, Jane C. Wilson of Chesapeake, Sherry H. Gutermuth and Helen F. Orrison, both of Virginia Beach; three nephews, Robert O. Costigan of Marrietta, Ga., Richard S. Costigan of Granite Bay, Calif., and Richard R. Costigan of Kansas; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Hellen was a wonderful person who always put the needs of her family before her own, and she will be truly missed.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. J. Shepherd Russell. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
