Norfolk police launched a homicide investigation Friday after a man was shot to death in Brambleton.
The man's identity had not been confirmed late Friday, but he may have been from the 800 block of Reservoir Avenue, just yards from where his body was found.
Police released little information about the homicide just before 3 p.m. Police spokesman Larry Hill said the man was in his late 40s to early 50s. He was dressed in a T-shirt and blue jeans, and a shoe was missing.
Hill said detectives were piecing together what happened. A motive and suspects were not known.
Dozens of onlookers gathered near the vacant lot at Olney Road and Reservoir Avenue, where the body was found.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 664-4040.
Driver killed, second hurt
in three-vehicle collision
A 24-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle collision early Thursday at Military Highway and Princess Anne Road in Norfolk.
Thomas W. Barnes of Connecticut Avenue in Norfolk was dead at the scene. Raymond Rhone, 57, of Malbon Drive in Virginia Beach was treated for injuries and released.
Donald H. Fralick, 44, of the 5900 block of Oetjen Ave. in Norfolk was charged with driving under the influence, police said.
Police spokesman Larry Hill said Barnes, who was driving a 1991 Acura, and Rhone, driving a 1988 Lincoln, were waiting at the stoplight heading east on Princess Anne Road at 1:22 a.m.
As the light changed and they drove into the intersection, Fralick drove through a red light in his Ford truck, hitting the two cars, police said. KEYWORDS: MURDER SHOOTING ACCIDENT TRAFFIC FATALITY
