MILDRED M. MASON

Mildred Megill Mason, 68, of the 2300 block of Elaine Ave., died July 18, 1997, after a brief struggle with cancer.

She was born in Penns Grove, N.J., but made her home in Norfolk for the past 37 years. She was the widow of Harold W. Mason, U.S. Navy retired. She was a tour escort for Fun Tours Inc. and a member of First Lutheran Church, Norfolk, Wives of Submarine Veterans of World War II, a past officer of Tidewatchers Booster Club; and a member of Fleet Reserve Branch (NU)60, Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her loving companion, M.M. ``Turk'' Turner of Norfolk; three daughters, Diane L. Fisher and her husband, Glenn of Norfolk, Linda J. Gower and her husband, James of Chesapeake, Barbara A. Wiegratz and her husband, Rob, of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, James W. Jones III and wife, Tisha of Norfolk, Sgt. Warren E. Gower and wife, Stephanie of Butzbach, Germany, Jennifer L. Jones of Norfolk, Rebecca J. Gower of Chesapeake, Stephanie L. Monroe of Chesapeake, Jake N. Jackson of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Marena S. Jones, Hannah R. Robinson and Jordan C. Furey of Norfolk; five step-grandchildren, James R. Gower Jr. of Newport News, Heather Robinson, Sherri Fay, Michelle Fisher and Stephanie Fisher, all of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Lutheran Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. James G. Cobb. Burial will be in Hampton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today. A memorial service by the wives of Submarine Veterans of WWII will be held at 7 p.m.
