ELVERT C. JONES

Elvert C. Jones of the 1200 block of Freedom Ave., died July 18, 1997, in his residence.

Mr. Jones was born in Newport News and was retired from the National Maritime Union as a merchant seaman after 25 years. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include his wife, Partheina Jones; two daughters, Gwendolyn Hayes and Karen Jackson, both of Portsmouth; two sons, Elvert E. Jones of Norfolk and Donald C. Jones of Virginia Beach; an aunt, Billy Lee Hickerson of Camden, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Stover and Dr. Odessa Baker; and a brother-in-law, Henry E. Baker Jr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. John Davis. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. On the day of the service the family will assemble at the residence and the body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
