NORFOLK SOUTHERN PROMOTES THREE TO SHEPHERD CONRAIL DEAL: Norfolk Southern Corp. announced Wednesday that its board of directors is promoting three executives, effective Aug. 1, to help shepherd its purchase of Conrail Inc. to completion. John F. Corcoran, the railroad's Washington lobbyist, was promoted to senior vice president of public affairs. Corcoran has been vice president of public affairs since 1992. Harold C. Mauney Jr. was named vice president of public affairs in Norfolk. Mauney had been vice president of operations planning and budget. Nancy S. Fleischman was appointed vice president. Fleischman, who had been an assistant vice president in strategic planning, will report to Norfolk Southern Chairman David R. Goode and coordinate Norfolk Southern's activities relating to its operation of the Conrail system. Fleischman becomes the third woman in Norfolk Southern's 30-member executive group - vice president or higher.

WGNT NAMES GEHRING TO GENERAL MANAGER AND BUNNELL TO GENERAL SALES MANAGER: C. Michael Gehring was named general manager and chief operating officer at UPN-27, WGNT. He was the general manager at WATL, the WB affiliate in Atlanta, for the past year. J. David Bunnell was named general sales manager at UPN-27, WGNT.
