Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fair Thursday morning, but slow during the afternoon because of bad weather.
A few Spanish mackerel were landed early in the morning on Kitty Hawk Pier.
Avalon Pier also reported some morning catches, including bluefish, a few Spanish mackerel and several keeper gray trout. A 55-pound cobia was landed and a 28-pound jack was released.
Nags Head Pier anglers landed a few spot, pigfish, small bluefish and small gray trout throughout the morning.
Fishermen on Jennette's Pier caught scattered small spot and croaker.
A few croaker and spot and a handful of keeper speckled trout were taken on Outer Banks Pier.
South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught scattered small spot and croaker.
Fishing was slow on Avon Pier, with only a few small croaker landed.
Croaker and a few keeper flounder were caught from Frisco Pier during the morning. Strong winds killed fishing the rest of the day.
Surf fishing along the northernbeaches was fair during the morning on the rising tide. Small bottom fish were landed from most sloughs.
Small bottom fish, a few blues and some trout were taken around Oregon Inlet before wind and rain curtailed fishing.
Plenty of croaker, a few spot and an occasional sea mullet were landed along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Buxton on the rising tide.
Good numbers of pompano were landed on the beach north of Cape Point Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.
A few croaker were landed in the surf from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.
Good numbers of tailor blues were landed by boaters around Oregon Inlet early Thursday. Headboats in the area caught croaker on the morning trips. Rough seas put a halt to afternoon actions.
Charters off Oregon Inlet landed a few tuna at the point. Scattered dolphin and a few wahoo also were taken. Billfish releases included two sailfish each by the Hooker and the Pollyanna, a white marlin by the Right Hook and a blue marlin by the Capt. B.C.
Although seas were rough off Hatteras, blue water anglers caught good numbers of king mackerel, wahoo and a few dolphin. A white marlin was released by the Chapin.
The water temperature was 74 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
