RUTH E. FLYTHE

Ruth Ellen Flythe, the widow of Roland Dennison Flythe, died July 25, 1997, in Maryview Nursing Care Center.

Born April 26, 1908, in Pilot Mountain, N.C., she was the seventh of 10 children born to Sandy Thomas Ashburn and Sarah A. Ashburn.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Flythe Hollowell; her grandson, Dennis Ray Hollowell and a sister, Jacqueline A. Lawrence of Manhasset, N.Y. She has lived in Portsmouth since 1937 and retired from Merchants and Farmers Bank in 1973.

Mrs. Flythe was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church. She had taught Sunday School in the Junior and Intermediate Departments, was past president of the Faithful Workers class and sang in the senior choir along with her family.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home by the Rev. Evan Smith with burial to follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Maryview Nursing Care Center by Chaplin Ronald R. Rice at a time to be announced.
