JAMES D. WOODRUFF

James Daniel Woodruff, 86, of the 700 block of Oak Grove Road died Sunday, July 27, 1997, in his residence.

A native of Middlesex, N.C., he was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Barfield Woodruff. He had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a welder and was also a retired barber by trade and minister of the Gospel. He was a charter member of Collinswood Baptist Church and attended Waters Road Baptist Church of Great Bridge.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth W. Chambers and her husband, Fred, of Great Bridge and Sarah Woodruff of New York City; four grandchildren, Steve Chambers of Richmond, Linda Morefield, Regina Chambers and Carl Chambers, all of Chesapeake; four great-grandchildren, David, Daniel, Stevie and Courtney; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob and Christin; a close family friend, Kaye McConnell of New York City; and many loyal and loving friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Roger Johnson. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
