OSCEOLA M. HUDGINS

Osceola M. Hudgins, 87, wife of the late Lewis P. Hudgins Sr., entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 26, 1997, at the home of her daughter.

A native of Aurora, Bonnington, N.C., she resided in Norfolk for 57 years.

Mrs. Hudgins retired from Ballard Fish and Oyster Co. in Norfolk in 1972 after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she served on the usher board, as a deaconess, on the gospel choir and as a willing worker. She also was a member of the United Order of Tents and Eastern Star.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Lillian Swindell of Norfolk and Jessie H. Ellis of Hampton; a devoted son-in-law, John D. Ellis; a son, Lewis P. Hudgins Jr. of Norfolk; and a devoted daughter-in-law, Derrell Hudgins; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A granddaughter, Avery Swindell Otu, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St., Norfolk, by the Rev. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Graves Funeral Home. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
