Dr. Thomas David McLaughlin, 64, of Great Bridge, passed away July 28, 1997.
A member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chesapeake, Dr. McLaughlin was originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He was a visiting professor at East Carolina University.
Survivors include his wife, Selma; sons, David Wayne and Steven Graham; daughter, Diane McLaughlin Ferguson; grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle, Eric, Dexter and Kimberly.
He held degrees including a bachelor of science from Youngstown State University, a master of science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a doctorate of business administration from Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. His interests included music, boating, gardening and woodworking.
Dr. McLaughlin was affiliated with the following organizations: the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), National Association of Accountants (NAA), Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA), and Ruritan International, Silk Hope, N.C. Chapter.
He was a warm and caring husband, father and grandfather with a keen sense of humor.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chesapeake, or to the American Heart Association.
