SPANISH MACKEREL, COBIA AMONG GOOD PIER CATCHES

Pier fishing along the Dare Coast was pretty good Wednesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few Spanish mackerel, spadefish and a 25-pound cobia landed.

On Avalon Pier anglers caught some small blues.

Small blues, a few sea mullet and scattered spot were taken on Nags Head Pier.

Fishermen on Jennette's Pier caught spot and small flounder. The best of the spot fishing was during the afternoon.

Outer Banks Pier reported good catches of small blues, flounder, croaker and speckled trout along with a few gray trout.

South of Oregon Inlet plenty of spot, and a few sea mullet, scattered small blues and croaker were landed at Rodanthe Pier.

On Avon Pier, croaker fishing was good Wednesday. Scattered spot and blues were also taken.

Some blues, Spanish mackerel, spot, flounder and a few pompano were caught from Frisco Pier.

A few scattered bottom fish were landed along the northern beaches from deeper sloughs. A handful of bottom fish, small blues, gray trout and a few keeper flounder were landed in the surf and from the catwalk on the Bonner Bridge at Oregon Inlet.

Small bottom fish and scattered blues were taken by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Tailor blues were caught at Cape Point off and on Wednesday. Sea mullet and pompano were landed along the beach south of Cape Point.

Plenty of small blues, pompano and a few Spanish mackerel were beached by surf fishermen from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Bluewater action off Oregon Inlet was fairly slow Wednesday. Charters landed a few tuna, wahoo, and king mackerel. Several billfish were released, including a white marlin by the ForPlay'N.

Gulf Stream charters off Hatteras caught a few tuna, wahoo, king mackerel and dolphins.

The water temperature was 73 degrees Wednesday at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 79 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
