JOHN R. STACKPOLE SR.

John R. Stackpole Sr., 73, of the 1900 block of Meadowlake Drive, died July 31, 1997, in a local hospital.

A native of Porters Falls, W.Va., he was the widower of Patricia Stackpole. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate 1st class with 20 years of service. He also retired from the Norfolk Police Department after 16 years and as a commercial fisherman after eight years. Mr. Stackpole was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge (NU)199, Fraternal Order of Police and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Belcher of New Port Richie, Fla., Judy Sharlow of Virginia Beach, Deborah Tepovich of Virginia Beach; two sons, John R. Stackpole Jr. of Virginia Beach, Brad Stackpole of Norfolk; three sisters, Lula Miller of New Martinsville, W.Va., Ruby Pruitt of Tallmadge, Ohio, Anna Belle Booher of Porters Falls, W.Va.; a brother, Raymond Stackpole of Sardis, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Dallas Stackpole.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors by the Rev. Nathan Towe. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
