Helen Sudderth Deal died Wednesday July 30, 1997, in Raleigh, N.C., following a brief illness.
Helen was born in Blowing Rock, N.C., on Sept. 5, 1912, and had been a member of the Norfolk community since 1944. She received her R.N. degree from Monmouth Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, N.J. She retired as director of nursing at Lafayette Villa Health Care in 1983.
Helen was a member of the Ocean View Presbyterian Church and served as deacon and was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School class. She was a past worthy matron of the Elizabeth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was presently serving as treasurer. Helen was also past queen of the Al Kena Temple No. 124, of the Daughters of the Nile.
She was married to the late Earl L. Deal Sr. and is survived by her children, Earl L. and Betsy Deal of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Earl L. (Buddy) Deal III and Shannon Deal of Laurel Springs, N.C., and Margaret Deal Carver of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Tidewater Drive. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ocean View Presbyterian Church, 9200 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23503.
