RUBY E. GARRISH

Ruby Estelle Garrish, 91, died Aug. 1, 1997, at her residence.

Mrs. Garrish was born in Corolla, N.C., the daughter of the late Wesley and Isabelle Austin. She was a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, where she was an organist for more than 40 years before retiring in 1974. She was a graduate of St. Paul's School, where she studied music. She was very active in church and community activities. She was predeceased by her husband, James D. Garrish Sr.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, James and Madora Garrish Jr. of Ocracoke, Walter Potter and Germaine Garrish of Hampton, N.H., Carlton Ward and Linda Garrish of Ocracoke; seven grandchildren, James Garrish III, Roger Garrish of Ocracoke, Sheila Fogarty of Fairfield, Conn., Michael Garrish of Derry, N.H., Karen Jefferson of Virginia Beach, Kathleen Hanson of Rochester, N.H., Robert Garrish of Portsmouth, N.H.; two step-grandchildren, Warwick Boos and Sandy Morris of Ocracoke; 11 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Ocracoke United Methodist Church, Ocracoke, by the Rev. J. Allen Lovell. Burial will be in Ocracoke Community Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, Ocracoke, N.C. 27960. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
