Rufus Wilson Smith, 84, died July 25, 1997.
A native of Smithfield, Va., he was the son of the late George Rufus and Adah Wilson Smith. He was an Air Force captain in World War II and then resumed his career as a singer-actor in Broadway plays and musicals. His career included television appearances, concerts and opera.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Taylor Smith; his son, Langhorne H. Smith of Richmond; a granddaughter, Quincy Smith, and a grandson, Drew Smith, both of Richmond; a niece, Addie H. Eley of Windsor; a nephew, Marvin G. Eley Jr. of Virginia Beach; and a great-niece and great-nephew.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Holmes S. Eley.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield, by the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
