William Edward ``Chilly Willy'' Smith Jr., 70, of the 100 block of Baldwin Ave., died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, in his home.
He was a native of Montrose, La., and retired from the U.S. Navy with 22 years service and also from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a planner and estimator. Mr. Smith was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Freda N. Smith; a daughter, Susan Gaddy of Ladson, S.C.; two sons, William R. Smith, Stephen N. Smith, both of Portsmouth; four sisters, Juanita S. Price and Tommie Jean Allgood, both of Meridian, Miss., Joan S. Toler of Mineral Wells, Texas, Peggy S. King of Jackson, Miss.; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Karen, Kasey, Eric, Ben and Chad; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Fairview Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Ted Burton. Burial with military honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 3 to 5 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
