Two Virginia men out for a morning jog were killed Sunday morning by a motorist police said was driving without a license.
Two other joggers were also injured in the accident on U.S. 301. All four victims were visiting Fayetteville for a family reunion.
Johnny Barry Townsend, 38, of Fayetteville, was charged with two counts of death by motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed and driving with a revoked license, said Lt. Frank Vlasak of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Romie Stokes Jr., 48, of Chesapeake, and Reginald McCoy Harden, 37, of Norfolk, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Harden's wife, Michelle Ruth Smith Harden, 33, and his sister-in-law, Nannette Smith, 25, of Norfolk, were injured. They were treated and released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Two passengers in the car were also hurt.
