DAVID W. LAPHAM

David Wade Lapham, 96, died at home Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997.

Born in St. Paul, Minn., he moved to Portsmouth in 1940. He was an active member of Highland Baptist Church and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1965. He moved to Edenton, where he helped found Bandon Chapel on Arrowhead Beach, N.C., and was a deacon emeritus. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and loved family occasions and community service work.

He is survived by a sister, Jenny Firkus of St. Paul; daughter, Marjorie Baumwell of Honolulu, Hawaii; son, David Wade Lapham II of Edenton; and five grandchildren, Phyllis Dendle, Eric Baumwell, Leon Williams, Lisa Williams and Brian Williams.

He touched untold numbers of people with his kindness, generosity, humor, love and abiding faith in the Lord. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Bandon Chapel, Arrowhead Beach, N.C. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
