E. LEE HENLEY

E. Lee Henley, 85, of the 400 block of Woodlake Road died Aug. 5, 1997, in Sentara Bayside Hospital.

A retired customer service worker for Texas Oil Co. with 44 years of service, he was a Norfolk native and the widower of Josie Ferrell Henley. He was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, and the Howell Bible Class. He was a member of South Norfolk Lodge No. 339 A.F.&A.M.; South Norfolk Old Timers Club (one of the founders); South Norfolk First Senior Citizens Club and was past president for two terms; and was the first First Citizen of South Norfolk; played semi-pro baseball in Sunbury, N.C., and Suffolk. He was recently honored by the mayor of Chesapeake by proclamation for E. Lee Henley Day.

Survivors include a son, Wayne F. Henley of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Douglas Lee Henley Jr. of Virginia Beach, Elizabeth Henley Absher of Virginia Beach, Anne Henley Eberdt of Durham, N.C., Kyle W. Henley of Tampa, Fla., Blair F. Henley of Johnson City, Tenn., and Allisun P. Henley of Virginia Beach; and seven great-grandchildren; a very close friend, Irene Shiflet of Virginia Beach.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Morris Jr. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. Visitation will be at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake, today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
