TEEN KILLED, ANOTHER HURT IN PORTSMOUTH SHOOTING

Gunfire killed one teen-ager and seriously hurt another late Tuesday near the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Seminole Drive, police said.

Police spokeswoman Amber Whittaker said a 17-year-old boy died shortly after the 9 p.m. shooting at or near a Rack & Sack grocery store in that area. The other shooting victim, an 18-year-old, was in emergency surgery early Wednesday. His condition wasn't known.

Police said the teens apparently ran in fear from where the shooting happened. One collapsed in the 1900 block of Victory Blvd., and the other just a few feet away on Seminole Drive.

Investigators were still searching for clues early Wednesday; few details were available.

Police said they didn't know a motive for the shootings and didn't have any suspects in custody early Wednesday. Whittaker said that, although several people were in the area of the shooting, no witnesses have come forward.
