CHARLIE C. EVANS

Charlie C. Evans, 82, of the 5200 block of Marian Lane, went to be with the Lord Aug. 6, 1997.

A native of Chowan County, N.C., Mr. Evans retired as a U.S Army master sergeant with more than 20 years of service, after which he served with the Fort Story Fire Department for an additional 20 years. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his brother, Edison Evans of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Marie McConnell of Abingdon, Va., Woodrow Whitley Jr., C. David Whitley, Laura Heartwell, Paul Whitley, all of Virginia Beach; nine great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.

A Mass of the Resurection will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach by the Rev. James E. Dorson. Interment will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park. There will be a visitation this evening at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of Laura and Jim Heartwell at 729 12th St., Virginia Beach, following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.
